Backup Exec Database Size

I need a solution

Hello I am having problems with my backup exec database BEDB_dat.mdf. The database keeps growing in size and reaching its 4GB cap. I am able to go into SQL manager and run commands:

use BEDB 
truncate TABLE BElog
select Count(*) from BElog
DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (BEDB,5)

Once I run that query the database will shrink down to about 100MB. After about a week and a half it will be back up to 4GB. I checked event viewer and I am not seeing any failed database maintance errors until the database reached 4GB then I will start to see the error. Attached is a screen shot of the setting for the database maintance.  

Backup exec 2012 SP3 currently backs up 18 servers, runs on Server 2008 R2 and I B2D and use no tape.

Excluding directories and files for NDMP backup selections

I need a solution

I have been trying to create a NDMP pattern to exclude files and directories from an EMC Sans.  I have been working with Symantec Tech support we and haven't been able to determine why the selection and the exclusions patterns are not working.  I have pasted in to this discussion forum the below link that, was recommended by Symantec in order to obtain a poper backup with the exclusions that I'm seeking to no avail.

I'm running the following environment: Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r3 SP2, Hotfix 180429, Hotfix 176937, Hotfix 191248, Hotfix 194471, and Hotfix 195395. Windows 2008 SP2-32 bit with 32-GB of Ram.

BMR Boot Server Question

I need a solution

do we have to use a boot server if we are using the boot disk on a redhat server.

i only have 2 redhat servers and 1 is a powered down backup for the one running. if the running server goes down we want to use the bmr image to copy over to the backup. i wont have a running redhat boot server. will i have to make oneor options?

Sceptical user, Can BE really follow DFS path?

I need a solution

DFS (no replicated folders). I'm just bringing together many shared folders in a conprehensible configuration using DFS. Replication is not needed.

I've tried and given up several times over the last 2 years. I figure BE can't do this. But if someont tells me they are doing it... that would give me some fuel to keep trying.

example.

Namespace = domain\cities

under cities there's newyork, paris, london namespaces pointing to target shares.

In BE, create backup, in selections I open the cities tree, then open the paris/london/newyork tree and there are no files.

I would very much like to backup files using this path.  Are you doing this? please let me know.

Windows 2012 Hyper-V Host as Backup Exec Media Server and Catalog Server

Hi,

I have one question on Backup Exec Media and Catalog server installing in Windows 2012 Hyper-V Host parent partition. Will this work? I want to use this for backup os Hyper-V Host and VMs on that. Hyper V Host will be Backup Exec Media Server and Catalog server and also Hyper-V agent will be installed in the same server.

Large backup >6TB fails with Netbackup and Oracle RMAN

Hi .,

We have setup Symantec Netbackup 7.5.0.6. Master server on Windows 2008 R2 clustering and Media server on RHEL 6.3.

Media server is hosted on the same zone as that of the Oracle where as the Master server is in MZ. In between there is a firewall and all the corresponding ports are opened.

When RMAN based backup is initiated, it runs for nearly 8 hours and after around ~6TB the backup fails with error as below.

"Cannot write data to network: Connection timed out (110)"

Any parameter which needs to be tweaked?

We have tested backup with database size of 120GB and it works perfectly fine. But the production DB is around 16TB

An Help would be highly appreciated.

O problema que ocorre é que o backup é efetuado e somente o job de controle finaliza com status 1

Todos os outros backups estão finalizando com status 0, não há nenhuma informação de erro no próprio EV.

As políticas foram configuradas de acordo com as práticas indicadas pela symantec:

c) What are the communication ports need to be open between server and the client running Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option?

BMR best practice for Windows clients w/multiple NICs

Hi folks.  Last week I had to assist with restoring a Windows 2008 host for one of our clients.  I had been backing it up using NBU 7.5.0.6 with BMR enabled using a client hostname they provided, assuming that was the only hostname for the client.  Turns out it wasn't, and the Windows 2008 host was actually configured like this:

NIC1 = IP1 = HOST1

NIC2 = IP2 = HOST2

NIC2 += IP3 = HOST3

NIC2 += IP4 = HOST4

...and so on, eight addresses in total.  All were registered in DNS, and all were addresses in the same LAN.  The client name I was given turned out be HOST4.  When it came time to restore this host using BMR using boot media, a client admin handled the client while I monitored the master server.  When we got firewalls out of the way and disabled NetBackup's client restrictions by touching /usr/openv/netbackup/db/altnames/No.Restrictions on the master server, we managed to get the client to boot and restore files but it always failed when it came time to restore System State.  The master server saw the client connect as HOST1 every time, never HOST4.  Finally we gave up on BMR, the client admin installed Win2008 + NBU 7.5.0.6 client from scratch, and we did a conventional restore of files and System State.

If this had been my host, I would have done the networking differently.  Even the client would have done so, but they had inherited this host from a third party fairly recently and hadn't had time to rebuild it.  Nevertheless, they and I would like to know how to deal with this sort of thing in the future.  The BMR Admin Guide says that BMR supports multiple NICs, but it doesn't provide any guidelines about how best to backup and restore a host over different NICs.  My own guess is that we should use the hostname and IP address associated with the primary NIC whenever possible.  But is there something I could have done to salvage BMR for this client?  What networking recommendations can I pass along to ensure the best chance of BMR succeeding with multihomed clients?

I need a solution

I'm trying to backup a 2008 R2 Domain Controller but I've been unable to. I'm getting the following errors. My goal is to perform a P2V, and to do that I've always shut down Active Directory Domain Services or restarted in DSRM but VSS doesn't appera to work in either case. I'm hoping someone can provide me with a solution. Demoting the DC's is not an option.

Event ID 100

This machine is a Domain Controller with the Active Directory service (NTDS) stopped. Backup cannot be performed, nor can shadow copies be managed in this case. Either the NTDS must be started (net start ntds), or reboot in DSRM to enumerate shadow copies/providers/writers only.

trying to get more multiplexing with SAP backups

We generally run a multiplex level of 4 to 8 on our Standard backups.  I'd like to get up to that level with SAP backups.

This is my understanding of how SAP interacts with Netbackup (without Rman in this case, but I think its similar):

The DBA's generally have me define the backup policies with multiplex of 2.

In the init<SID>.utl file they will then (for example) specify a setting of "DRIVES 4".  So 4 Netbackup jobs will get submitted and the Multiplexing setting will then cause two drives to be used (4 / 2).

But no other jobs running will then multiplex with this backup.  And I then have sets of SAP backup jobs queue up because each wants their own one or two drives.

What do most shops do with SAP and Multiplexing?  Can I get more Multiplxing across SAP backups?

I need a solution

I'm using Windows Server 2012 with SSR 2013. If a backup is missed say on Sunday & I log onto the server on Monday, SSR ask's me, " Would you like to run your missed backups now" that's not a problem. The problem is if a backup is missed on Sunday & I don't log into the server until Tuesday, how do I get Sundays missed backup? I don't see anyplace where it lets me go back a day or 2 once the next scheduled backup has completed.

Linux Vmware Backup host multi-pathing support

I need a solution

Ran into an issue today regarding support for multipathing esx data stores on a linux rhel vmware backup host.  Are any of you all having this issue as well? If so what did you do to avoid the multi-pathing?  The esx datastores are EMC clariion with powerpath on the rhel vmbackup host.  In the pdf support for virtual environments it states that it might be supported in future releases.  Do any of you know if this is rolled into 7.6?  Looking for ideas on how to get around this limitation for supportability. Current version of nbu is 7.5.0.6 and wanting to use SAN transport for VM backups.

DLO Error 1603: Fatal Error During Installation

Hello everybody

 

I'm installing DLO Server with a remote SQL Server 2008 R2 database. THe agent for the database was successfully installed in the remote server, but when I'm trying to install DLO Admin and Maintenance Server in the console server, I'm getting the error:

Error 1603: Fatal Error During Installation

and installer finish without any change in the server (it is not creating any directory either installing DLO).

I try to install it in another unit and review the windows components but it doesn't work. So, I did a test installing all of the DLO components in the console server and it ends successfully, I don't think this is a MS problem, I think there is something missing in my DB or something like that.

The domain user belong to Domain Admins group and the DB has mixed authentication and the user is the DBO too.

Does anybody has any idea about this issue?

Ghost jobs in activiy monitor

decommison of Netbackup SAN BASED Media server.

Hi I need to decommison a san based media. I intend on using nbdecommison command. however I need to hold on to the data for restore purposes should the server be bought back online in the next 2 months.

The server will online while the decomm process takes place.

Step 1.  run nbdecommission  -list_ref -oldserver hostname

Give me the a detailed output

Step 2. run nbdecommission -oldserver hostname [-newserver hostname]

Can I use a normal ie Lan based media server to take ownership of the media.
In the event of a restore I should use the old san based nedia server name in BAR gui to restore back to.

I will have to proof the restore process before the after decommison  process from Netbackup.

Please provide opinons on the solution.
